Updating software on iphone
This came shortly after after another i OS 10 glitch left i Phone users unable to update their devices over Wi-Fi, forcing them to connect the smartphone to a Mac or PC via USB.
Users have also complained about terrible battery drain, and slower speeds since updating to the new operating system.
The new software update brings a slew of new features, including a dramatic redesign for Apple Music, a preinstalled app to manage your smart home appliances, third-party support for Siri, and more.
A spokesperson from the company said, "We're aware of an issue that affects the encryption strength for backups of devices on i OS 10 when backing up to i Tunes on the Mac or PC.
We are addressing this issue in an upcoming security update.
Elcomsoft noted that although Apple smartphones themselves are extremely secure, the software they run is often the weak link, especially when such local backups are created on a linked PC or Mac device.
The news is not the first issue to affect i OS 10, however, as some users have noticed problems with Wi-Fi connectivity since the upgrade.
This does not affect i Cloud backups.""We recommend users ensure their Mac or PC are protected with strong passwords and can only be accessed by authorised users.
Additional security is also available with File Vault whole disk encryption."The flaw was discovered by Russian security firm, Elcomsoft, which develops software that is able to bypass some of the major protections on i Phones.
Apple has confirmed that its latest i OS 10 software could be suffering from a major security fault.
The i Phone maker says that it is aware of a significant issue that could leave devices open to being hacked and user backups and passwords being cracked, and is urgently working on a fix.
Whilst looking to update its tools for the latest i Phone 7 and 7 Plus devices, the company found that i Tunes backups saved after a user updates to i OS 10 use a new "password verification mechanism" that skips several security checks.
If an attacker was able to get their hands on any of these backup files, they would be able to combine this with Elcomsoft's tools to crack the password up to 40 times quicker than ever before.
